These teacups were made by the master artisans about 120 years ago, yet they look stunningly modern. Is it the geometric pattern that lends them such a timeless beauty and freshness? Well, take a closer look.
The geometric patterns have warmth to them. This warmth comes through in the near-obsessive hand-painted lines. The hand paint makes us feel warm or closeness to our heart or wanting to hold it.
It must have been near maddening to paint such thin lines on such small cups from dawn to dusk. The result? An elegant balance of subtly dancing, playful motions, and sheer beauty. While these are teacups, I always urge fellow art lovers to image such works outside their original context. Imagine presenting a scoop of sorbet of seasonal fruit in it. Alternatively, how about serving jellied consommé in it as an amuse-bouche?
