Dohachi studio in Kyoto made the bowl to use at the Tea Event (tea ceremony) around the 1900s. It is to serve sweets. There are so many rules and protocols associated with the bowl. I can see how it will delight the event by not insisting on itself but helping the host’s sensitivity and the sweets shine. I ignore them all and see it as a ceramic bowl that can acclimate to stewards or space outside the tearoom or country/culture of origin. I like items cherished and used by stewards with a good eye and good hands for a long time. The bowl is one of them. I see deliciously cooked eggplants in it at the center of a table and hand the bowl around to see it closely and handle it.
