An obidome is the final piece that is put on when wearing a kimono. After the obi (waistband) is tied around the kimono, a rope or cord called an obijime is used to hold it together. The obijime slides through the slots on the backside of the obidome and it is readjusted so that the knot that ties the rope is hidden behind the back of the obi and the obidome is presented on the center of the front.

Less than an inch wide, the small piece of ivory is carved magnificently. It is a graceful object. Place it on a black lacquer tray as an object d’art, or fashion it into a pin and attach it to your favorite jacket. How you introduce the work to your life depends on how it calls out to you.
