The large Furoshiki was likely used to wrap larger items or bundles of folded kimonos and fabrics. On one corner, written directly on the textile with a brush and Sumi ink, is the name of a business, "Matsubaya." Just above the name, to the upper right, two characters read "Go-jo," referencing the address of the store. On another corner, "Matsuku Uchiyo" is written – Matsuku, an affiliated business name, and "Uchi Yo" (内用) means "for the use in the store."
The textile has a beautiful off-white color. It was used within the business and had no need for decoration. It could be perfect for taking it out for a picnic.
