Two burdock roots

One day in the 17th century a monk picked up a brush and some paper and painted two burdock roots. The genuine simplicity emanating from this painting says it all eloquently.

Kokan, Meioyo entered Zoujouji temple in Edo(Tokyo) as a learning monk. He moved to Kyoto area and served as chief priest at two buddhist temples: Saiganji temple at Yamato-koriyama and Ho-onji temple in Kyoto.
